#203 Rekindle Part 2: Follow the Sparks

If we don’t want to do business + leadership the way it’s always been done, we can’t keep using the same tools. Traditional planning aims for what you already know. But what if we want to end up somewhere DIFFERENT…and we don’t yet know what that looks like?

Here’s what happened on my biz sabbatical when I let following the sparks of inspiration be my method of “planning.”

I share:

  • How I infused excitement and fire back into my work, without “trying” to

  • Why following your yeses is a counter-culture act of rebellion

  • How to lean into the void when we can’t yet know what comes next

Mentioned in the episode

If we don’t want to do business + leadership the way it’s always been done, we can’t keep using the same tools.

Planning is traditionally how the map of our growth is laid out. We've been taught to reach for metric based goals that are “specific and measurable.” I want to work on these three projects this year, bring in this number of clients, and reach this xyz metric of success in my business.

Problem is, traditional planning assumes you know what’s going to happen.

But what if we want to end up somewhere different…and we don’t yet know what that looks like?

Because when you’re letting your work evolve in a meaningful way, a way that births something new that isn’t following the biz culture we’re all swimming in, you can’t actually know where you’re going.

We’re seeking new structures, new thinking, new actions. We’re going to places we may not yet be able to imagine.

If you plan by aiming for goals you already know, it will just bring you back to where you’ve already been. (And where biz culture has always been.)

So what’s a different way?

Instead of planning, try PATHFINDING.

Follow the sparks of inspiration and let that path reveal itself to you.

In episode 203 of Quiet Messenger, we’re picking up where we left off on the path to Rekindling (& what I learned on my year-long sabbatical) — what to do next when you’ve laid stability to free up your creativity but don’t yet feel any creative nudges.

xoxo

p.s. If you want a written & visual guide through this process to evolve your work when you’ve lost that fire, I recommend grabbing The Rekindle Map (it’s free).
