Today I want to cover a trap that is soooo common especially among us women who love self improvement and learning. The trap of knowing too much.
Sometimes, this even comes with guilt attached from not implementing every little practice that you know is good for you. But you don’t have to live with this guilt – I’m going to teach you a simple way to implement some of those actions even when you feel paralyzed and hopeless.
When you know what’s good for you but Just Don’t Wanna Do It
Last week I wrote an article giving you permission to slow down and sharing my favorite fortune cookie quote which will absolutely help if you are one of the chronically busy.
This week, I’m getting practical and sharing my advice for what to do.
You read tons of blogs, have checked out every wellness book from your local library, and have a subscription to a natural health magazine. You really should know better.
You know exactly what to do. Yet, you just can’t find the motivation to get started. Pretty soon, you’ll be able to work with me one on one, but until then… Here’s my advice on how to start without waiting for the “perfect moment” to come along.

Sounds like you got stuck! It’s time to engineer the “perfect moment” for change. Here’s how.
Go somewhere outside your normal routine.
Even if it’s a coffee shop or park, this change in scenery will help you think clearer and break you free from the routine you’re trapped in. I know because I’ve been there, and this works for me, too!
Clarity brings forward movement while lack of clarity breeds inaction.
Once you are at your change of scenery:
Plan out one small habit you want to start implementing.
Something doable but a bit of a stretch. Write it down.
AND also write down a first action step to take. It can be very small, but get detailed and specific. Enough that there is no obstacle or resistance holding you back from doing it anymore.
For example, if you want more yoga in your life, decide to do a quick 10 minute series of sun salutations every morning when you wake up.
Then visualize what it looks like to complete this action.
Decide what time you are going to set your alarm for tomorrow and visualize where in the house you will do it and what you will need (yoga mat, tights) to set out the night before.
This also works great if you’re on a vacation and can have a few key action steps lined up to implement immediately when you return. Just remember to initiate them as soon as possible because the clarity magic from the change in scenery will dissolve within a couple of days.
The key to breaking out of a rut is to get away from the routine of your everyday life and to have a very clear picture of your upcoming actions.
And then to implement them as soon as possible.
